IPL - Hair Removal
Fed up with shaving, epilating, tweezing, plucking and waxing?
Imagine zapping all those pesky body hairs with minimal pain and results that last for years. IPL hair removal can reduce hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, back chest, nipples and bikini line. You can even have an IPL Brazilian if you want!
IPL hair removal is a gradual process so typically six to ten treatments will be needed. The improvements are subtle and the treatment won't interrupt your normal activities. The number of treatments depends on skin and hair type, colour and thickness.
The hair is removed by controlled flashes of light, which is absorbed by the hair-filled follicles lying below the surface of the skin. It's the pigment in the hair shaft that absorbs the light. The resulting heat damages each follicle and disables it. The dead hair shaft appears to grow and then falls out: this may take 10 days or more.
Treatments should be at four week intervals, to treat hairs at all stages of the growth cycle.
What kind of results can I expect with IPL hair removal treatments?
This technology has been proven to create a permanent reduction in hair growth. The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to your skin and hair. We'll be able to give you a realistic expectation during your initial consultation.

FAQs
What do I need to do before an IPL treatment?
A half hour complimentary consultation is required prior to treatments to gather some health and medical details from you to explain the procedure and so we can safely administer the treatement.
Avoid sunlight where possible - and if you do go in the sun, wear a good quality sun block (if you don't have any, you can purchase some from us)
When? Treatments work best when there is a wide contrast between the colour of the hair and the colour of the skin - ie dark hair and pale skin. So winter is a good time to have hair removal treatments - and then you'll be nice and hair-free when summer arrives.
Shave the treatment area 1-2 days before your appointment - otherwise we'll do this for you at your appointment.
What happens during treatment?
During the treatment you'll be asked to wear dark glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light. If you haven't shaved the treatment area prior then we will shave it before treatment begins. Next a cold gel is spread over the treatment area. The hand piece is applied to the skin and pulses of light are flashed onto the treatment.
Does it hurt?
Each pulse of light feels like a slight sting or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band. Most people don't find this painful.
Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. You may experience slight reddening or local swellng at the treatment site but this typically goes away in a few hours. On very rare occasions blistering or bruising may occur, but this normally resolves within a few days too. Also, the skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatement will minimise the risk of complications.
